A name that needs no introduction. Jack Daniel’s Old no. 7 is the best selling American whiskey in the world. The story goes that young Jack ran away from home in 1864 and was taken in by Reverend Dan Call, who taught him about the fine art of distillation. Years later, the distillery was born.
THE FLAVOR PROFILE
Light with plenty of sweetness. Hints of dry spice and oily nuts. On the palate a nutty, dried banana character with vanilla and a pinch of licorice. Very distinctive taste sometimes attributed to their famous water source, Cave Spring Hollow.
CATEGORY DESCRIPTION
Tennessee whiskey is nearly identical to Bourbon whiskey. The primary difference lies in a filtration procedure called the “Lincoln County Process,” wherein the whiskey is filtered through maple charcoal prior to casking. It also must be made in Tennessee. Otherwise, it retains bourbon’s requirements of 51% corn and aging conducted in new charred oak barrels.
