Appleton Estate is a large swathe of land in Jamaica that houses over 11,500 acres of sugarcane.  They first began producing rum in 1749, making them one of the oldest continually producing rum distillers on the planet.  Their master blender of 35 years Joy Spence was the first female ever to occupy such a position.  Her modern, premium minded approach has led this distillery to win numerous accolades.

Funky molasses, orange peel, caramelized bananas and brown sugar penetrate the nose.  Medium-plus body and drier than the aroma suggests.  Expect baking spice, cream from the ex-bourbon barrels, and coffee.

Rum is a liquor made by distilling sugarcane molasses or pure sugarcane juice.  The distillate, a clear liquid, is usually aged in oak barrels.  Most rums are produced in the Caribbean and the Americas.  There are numerous styles of rum and they are typically delineated by region, distillation method, age, and sugar source.
