Catawba Brewing Co. was founded in 1999 by brothers Scott and Billy Pyatt. What began as a home brewing gift for Christmas evolved into the flowering brewery we know today. The name Catawba is from the so-called Catawba River in North Carolina.
THE FLAVOR PROFILE
Brewed according to the Belgian Witbier style, expect notes of orange zest and coriander, supported by a tangy wheat malt base. Light, flavorful and refreshing.
CATEGORY DESCRIPTION
Witbier is brewed using unmalted wheat, sometimes oats and malted barley. Witbiers are spiced with coriander and orange peel. A style that dates back hundreds of years, it fell into relative obscurity until it was revived by Belgian brewer Pierre Celis in the 1960s. This style is currently enjoying a renaissance, especially in the American market. “Wit” means “white.”
